“As One Global Ghost” explores the possibility that plasma is more than simply a state of matter, but part of the animating force that connects all living things.
The song began with an idea inspired by Library of the Untold. During an episode discussing plasma and angel beings, Joey Phipps said something that stuck with Shaun Zizi and eventually became the phrase “As One Global Ghost.”
From there, the song developed into a thought experiment about consciousness, mortality, and what might exist beyond our ordinary perception.
The song imagines humanity encountering plasma beings or biblically accurate angels, entities that may appear strange and overwhelming but deliver a simple message:
“Be not afraid.”
That message becomes part of a larger question. If we were to encounter beings like these at the end of our lives, what would they see when they looked at us? What would they say when they looked at our deeds?
The song then turns that question toward humanity as a whole.
What happens when we are gone? Where do we go? What will we see? And if we are all connected by some underlying force, what does that mean for the way we live?
The idea to expand the original concept to incorporate plasma came from Shaun Zizi’s wife. Her suggestion opened the song into a broader exploration of consciousness, life, death, human connection, and the possibility that the universe is far stranger and more interconnected than we normally perceive.
But the story of “As One Global Ghost” did not end when the song was finished.
Because Joey Phipps was the person whose words originally inspire the song, King of Cups decided to send him the finished track. The band did not expect a response. Knowing that creators receive countless messages from people who appreciate their work, they would have been grateful for even a brief reply.
Instead, Joey listened to the song, loved it, and asked if he could contribute vocals.
What began as inspiration from something Joey said became an unexpected collaboration with the person who helped spark the idea in the first place.
The release was delayed to make room for Joey’s contribution.
“As One Global Ghost” is therefore not only a song about connection. Its own creation became an example of that connection: an idea passed from one person to another, transformed into music, and eventually brought those people together on the same recording.
At its core, the song remains a question about how we live.
If something greater than ourselves is watching, what will it see when it looks at the way we lived?
And when our time comes, what will our deeds say about us?
“As One Global Ghost” asks us to consider the possibility that we are all part of something larger than ourselves, while reminding us that we still have a choice in what we contribute to it.
